ISOLDE Physics Group Meeting 31/05/2017

This weeks meeting took place in 508 to avoid the noise and take advantage of the air
conditioning.

Technical news
• GPS
- GPS target was not in good condition on the offline separator and is not
ready for physics.
- #513 backup target was used in its place and the B beams worked very
nicely. Users satisfied with the yields.
- 60 kV was not possible on the target due, probably, to leaking
dehumidifier.
- Run was performed with 30 kV instead, although not perfect was
acceptable for IDS run.
- There was a leak of SF6 gas somewhere in the line as the bottle went from
2.0 bar to 0.2 bar in 2 days. This has to be improved and is being worked
on.
- At some point, the target anode went to OFF status but went to white and
not red on the control screens.
- Full trip of target HV also occurred, but control screens were frozen and
still showed everything as green. It was finally resolved manually.

• HRS
- COLLAPS target online on Monday, setup on Tuesday.
- The beam tuning looked a little strange, tuning continued overnight.
o In retrospect: most likely due to a disconnected power supply at the
HRS front end. This was only discovered w/b 19th June.
- The picoammeter on FC490 was exchanged, but there are still problems.

• RILIS
- Al setup is ready and available.

• Technical stop
- Technical stop went well and there was not disruption to the users.
- Access to the dehumidifier at GPS was the biggest intervention.

• REX/HIE
- ToF issues because pulsed electrodes have strange configuration.
- Alignment and smoothing measurements due to be completed on
Thursday. Data will be analysed to see if further intervention is required.
- ISS magnet stand to arrive next week and surveying and drilling of holes to
be completed. Magnet to be put in place w/b 12th June.
- XT03 crane will be installed at the end of the week.

Physics news
• IDS
- 8B decay experiment looking at breakup into α particles and possible p+
decay.
- Particle spectroscopy setup was used with DSSSD+pad detectors for Si
telescope that surrounds implantation point.
- Yields were as expected in the proposal after concern that they might be
much lower.
- Lots of good data, showing indications of the high transition of interest.
- Work is now on going to analyse the full statistics data set.

A.O.B.
• Scheduling
- Schedule is now published until early September. Wk33 still to be
negotiated.

• INTC
- INTC deadline is at 5pm, strictly, without exception.
