Position for Solid State Detector Engineer at IPN Orsay

IPN Orsay is recruiting a Research Engineer to lead the solid state detector group and coordinate R&D, project and maintenance activities concerning Silicon and Germanium detectors. This is a tenured CNRS position in the Engineering (IR) category. There is no citizenship requirement.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

-Be technical project leader for the development of future Si  detectors for Nuclear Physics projects.

-Establish in collaboration with Nuclear Physicists the specifications of the detectors and coordinate the necessary R&D, the development and the fabrication.

-Manage the projects and coordinate the interfaces with mechanical, electronics and software engineers

-Carry out measurements, detector tests and installation and start up of detectors on the experimental sites (ALTO- Orsay, GANIL and other sites abroad)

-Coordinate the maintenance activities of the Ge detectors of the European Gamma-pool.

-Present the work of the group in meetings and conferences and disseminate the technological knowhow of the group.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in Nuclear Instrumentation or in Nuclear Physics with a strong instrumentation background, or an engineering degree in a related field with several years of experience in a research laboratory. He/she will have good knowledge of the physics of semi conductors and radiation measurements. He/she will master the techniques of simulations and measurements of semi-conductor detectors in the framework of Nuclear Physics Applications.  Project management and communication skills in English and French are necessary.
