Postdoctoral Fellowship, University of Western Cape

Post Doctoral Position in Experimental Nuclear Physics University of the Western Cape and iThemba LABS.

Applications are invited for the rst SARChI (South African Research Chairs Initiative) postdoctoral fellowship in experimental low-energy nuclear physics at the University of the Western Cape, located in the Bellville suburb of Cape Town, South Africa. The successful applicant will be paid an attractive National Research Foundation funded tax-free renumeration that is commensurate to the cost of living in the Western Cape. The two year fellowship has a possibility of renewal for an additional year, contingent on performance and funding.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. degree, or equivalent, and a strong record of published research with signicant contributions in the eld of experimental nuclear physics.

The nuclear physics group at the University of theWestern Cape has strong collaborative ties with other universities in the region and works closely with iThemba LABS that is located nearby. Research interests of the group include nuclear structure and reactions, nuclear astrophysics and tests of fundamental symmetries using both stable and radioactive ion beams.

The successful candidate is expected to maintain collaborations with other members of the community, mentor students and participate in experiments using the AFRODITE gamma-ray array and the K600 light-ion spectrometer, in addition to contributing to the development of the newly proposed GAMKA spectrometer and Radioactive Ion Beam Demonstrator at iThemba LABS.

The position also comes with a generous travel grant to participate in conferences (both national and international) and experiments at other facilities such as HIE-ISOLDE and TRIUMF. Applicants will have an excellent opportunity to be considered for future permanent positions in various South African institutions.
