Post Doctoral Associate Position, University of Tennessee

POST DOCTORAL ASSOCIATE POSITION IN EXPERIMENTAL NUCLEAR STRUCTURE, REACTIONS, AND ASTROPHYSICS UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE

The Experimental Low Energy Nuclear Physics Group is seeking candidates for a postdoctoral position within the Center of Excellence for Radioactive Ion Beam Studies for Stewardship Science (RIBSS). The RIBSS Center is a consortium of nuclear scientists, including those at the University of Tennessee, Rutgers University, and Oak Ridge National Laboratory, focusing on reaction and decay studies to probe nuclear structure and astrophysics. A current focus for the RIBSS center is the development of the HAGRiD scintillator array for high efficiency measurements of gamma rays following nuclear reaction and decays. HAGRiD is planned to be used in conjunction with existing detectors developed by the center such as the ORRUBA array of position-‐sensitive silicon strip detectors, and the VANDLE array of plastic scintillators, as well as equipment developed outside the center, such as the gas-‐jet target JENSA.

The successful candidate will be based at the University of Tennessee-‐Knoxville and will lead the HAGRiD development project. This position provides an excellent opportunity for an early career scientist to develop a research program and contribute to the experimental efforts of an established group of researchers. The experimental program will be carried out in US national laboratories as well as laboratories abroad. The UT – Knoxville group has demonstrated an excellent track record in experimental nuclear structure studies of nuclei far from stability with a strong connection to nuclear astrophysics. The candidate should have demonstrable experience with experiments at accelerator facilities, as well as excellent programming and data analysis skills.

The position is available immediately. Applicants should apply on-‐line at https://ut.taleo.net/careersection/ut_knoxville/jobdetail.ftl?lang=en&j… . Please provide your CV with a list of publications. Two letters of recommendation are requested. Any questions regarding this posting can be sent to Dr. Kate Jones at kgrzywac@utk.edu. The position is available from October 1 2013. Applications will be reviewed starting August 15 until the position is filled.
