Minutes of the ISOLDE Physics Group Meeting, December 13^th 2017

There were no comments to the minutes of the last ISOLDE PGM.

Technical news

• HRS
• The target used for the VITO experiment was left on-line for the tests of the MEDICIS setup.
• Subsequently, plug targets were installed on both front-ends for next year’s cold check-out.
• ISOLDE is currently in shutdown mode.

• Targets
• Irradiated targets will be shipped on January 20^th to the Intersecting Storage Rings and then work on the class A area will begin.  
• MEDICIS
• The MEDICIS target was irradiated last week, then left to cool for 2-3 days. It was installed on the MEDICIS front-end and tuned to collect the first radioactive isotopes.

Physics and schedule

• The VITO experiment performed the first β-NMR measurement in an ionic liquid with Na.
• The first radioactive-beam collection with the MEDICIS facility was performed last week.
• Beam-time requests will be sent early next year. The documents should be submitted before the next ISCC. 

Safety

• Safety inspections took place yesterday in b. 508 with positive outcome.
• Power cuts will take place Saturday, January 13^rd.
• The dosimeters which were kept next to Jenny’s office were, with few exceptions, returned to Dosimetry Service.

Visits

• In 2017 a number of 157 visits of the facility took place (of which 73 tourist visits, totaling 1305 visitors and soliciting 130 hours of guiding, see appendix).  For next year people are encouraged to volunteer for guiding groups. A discussion will also be organized to refine the existing presentation.

AOB

• CERN access during Christmas is available only to people who have especially requested it and is limited to maintenance operations.
• This year’s ISOLDE Christmas party achieved epic status and was highly appreciated.
• Next Tuesday the annual end-of-the-year lunch of the technical group will take place in Crozet.

Seminar

• The meeting was followed by the talk of Ivan Kulikov from GSI with the title "Search for long-lived isomers in neutron-rich Hf isotopes in the Experimental Storage Ring".

The next PG meeting will take place on Wednesday, January 17^th 2018, at 14:00 in the ISOLDE visitors’ room (26-1-022). It will not be followed by a seminar.
