1. Minutes of last meeting (YB)

The minutes from the last meeting were approved.

2. Status of HIE ISOLDE and views for the future (ML)

Mats reported (see file below) on the status of the HIE-ISOLDE proposal. The project is now split into 2 phases, HIE-ISOLDE 1 which comprises the energy upgrade up to 8-10MeV/u with a SC Linac, beam quality improvement and the design study for the intensity upgrade. HIE-ISOLDE 2 which comprises the intensity upgrade for 30 kW on targets.and the super HRS. He reviewed the ongoing activities, the cavity prototyping, the proposed layout, the RILIS upgrade and the LARIS laboratory (also presented by B. Marsh), additional fund requests, and the activities on the target station layout and possible robot upgrade. Finally, options for Linac 4 and SPL upgrade were presented in view of the intensity upgrade.

3. LARIS and RILIS : Recent achievements and future plans (Bruce Marsh)

Bruce reviewed (see file below) the recent upgrades of the lasers used by RILIS and the installation of the LARIS Laboratory. The CV Laser has been replaced by the SS Laser, which provides better stability, ease in operation and coverage of the spectrum. However this requires a review of the ionization schemes presently in use for the different chemical elements at ISOLDE. Examples of schemes, such as Be and Ga, and available line power were given. Finally, the evolution of beam time using RILIS was presented.

The layout of the LARIS Laboratory was provided. The 1st objective is to develop new ionization schemes, the 2nd objective is to improve the isomeric selectivity, and the 3rd is to obtain atomic spectroscopic data. The main advantage of LARIS is to perform the developments without the scheduling constraints when the ISOLDE separators were required, and the rapidity of screening of new schemes. However, for studies related to specific effects in hot cavities, for isomeric HFS specific schemes and for isotopes such as Po, Tc, ISOLDE and beam irradiation are still required.

4. News on new collaboration agreements (Yorick Blumenfeld & Thierry Stora)

Yorick and Thierry reported on recent contacts made for collaboration agreements. This includes GANIL in France and SPES in Italy. There has also been a recent workshop in India, and contacts are ongoing between SINP-VECC and ISOLDE. The possible collaboration between IPNO and ISOLDE is postponed until the ongoing collaborations are fully formalized and approved.

5. Recent BeO tests and priorities for target and ion source development (Alex Herlert & Thierry Stora)

Thierry reported (see file below) on a TISD run made with a new BeO target and the ISOLDE n-converter, useful to validate the production of 6He ions for beta beams for neutrino physics. This study was done within a large collaboration with GANIL and Weizmann and Soreq institutes. The neutron spectrum from the converter was assessed by foil activation and numerical simulations with Fluka. The yields and release properties confirmed the possibility to use thick BeO targets to produce high rates of 6He by (n,a) reactions. These tests serve as a basis for future optimization of the n flux and energy.

Alex reported no new beams were required by INTC from the last May sessin since only Progress Reports were presented.
