Associate Professor Position, University of Cape Town

The Physics Department at UCT seeks an Associate Professor with a present or planned research programme in fundamental experimental nuclear physics (nuclear structure and reactions) at iThemba LABS national laboratory (http://www.tlabs.ac.za). An applicant must have a PhD in Physics, an established profile of internationally recognized research publication in experimental nuclear physics, a record of attracting research funding, a history of successful postgraduate research supervision, and a proven ability to provide academic research leadership.

He/she will be expected to:

• provide senior leadership in nuclear physics research activities at iThemba LABS

• lecture at both introductory and senior undergraduate level (including service courses), and give specialist lectures at Honours (4th year) level

• supervise Honours-level projects, and MSc and PhD students

• teach both junior and senior undergraduate laboratories

• contribute actively to departmental administrative responsibilities

The annual remuneration package for 2014, including benefits, is

R703 151.
